Term vs. permanent life insurance
What each kind is for, what it costs, and why most families start with term.
Term coverage provides a set death benefit during a specified term. If you pass away during the coverage period, your beneficiary gets the amount you selected. If you outlive the term, the policy concludes without any payout.
Permanent insurance (whole life, universal life, and similar forms) remains effective throughout your lifetime and grows cash accumulation. It commands significantly higher monthly premiums compared to term.
How to choose
Think about actual need first, not the product. If your need has a concrete end point—when your home is paid off or your kids graduate—a term policy aligns perfectly with that timeline.
What people in Mountain House often do
A typical family picks a 20 or 30-year term, matching it to the household's genuine income-replacement duration and mortgage timeline through key earning years.
